AC Milan is doing well. After Roma’s draw a few hours earlier, at home, against Torino (1-1), the Milanese, third at the start of their match, had the opportunity to widen the gap and take the place of runner-up to Naples. Long held in check by a daring Fiorentina, Olivier Giroud and his teammates ended up winning (2-1) thanks to a goal in added time.
The match had started perfectly for the Lombards with a goal from Rafael Leao, his 6th of the season in the league, just 1 minute 30 after kick-off. The Portuguese international took advantage of a perfect deflection from Giroud to deceive Pietro Terracciano, the opposing goalkeeper (2nd, 1-0). Launched by the untenable Antonin Barak, Biraghi did not go far from equalizing, but his shot hit the post (8th). The equalizer finally came from Barak, author of a pivot shot in the area deflected by Thiaw which passed under the belly of Ciprian Tatarusanu, the replacement for Mike Maignan in the Milan goal (28th, 1-1).
Milenkovic unfortunate goalscorer
Giroud (50th, 72nd) and Leao (52nd, 78th) missed their opportunity to put AC Milan back in front. And Ikone saw his shot pushed back on his line by Tomori (89th). We were heading for a draw when Aster Vranckx’s cross was diverted into his own goal by Milenkovic (90th +2).
This success, even obtained in the snatch, temporarily offers second place in the standings to Stefano Pioli’s men while Lazio, doubled, will have a difficult trip, this Sunday evening (kick-off at 8:45 p.m.), on the ground of the Juventus.
