Agathe Sochat, after Les Bleues’ third place at the World Cup: “We’ll go find the next one”

“How did you remobilize for this small final after the frustration of the half lost last week (24-25 v New Zealand)?
I would not say that it was easy to remobilize. Sunday was difficult. The group was touched, because we had a lot of hope of reaching our dream with our fingertips. When we lost, it was very hard. Monday was still a bit tough. Afterwards, little by little, it came during the week, we climbed slowly, we remobilized for the match. And I think that since yesterday (Friday), we really switched to the fact of going for a medal. But it wasn’t easy.

How was the pregame? Was there a particular emotion?
There were speeches in the locker room, the desire to give a good exit to the girls who stop. We wanted to get something, because despite everything, coming back with a medal, even if it’s not the one we wanted, is better than finishing fourth. Even if we were down at the beginning of the week, we had to go get what we needed. Céline Ferer took us out of the masterclasses in the locker room before the match (smile). It was great. She was galvanized, she wanted to finish well. She took us with them and it showed even if the start of the match was difficult, it was very hot, there was rhythm.

“In 20 years, when we say that we have won a bronze medal in New Zealand, in the country of rugby, we will smile”

Were you surprised by the Canadians’ non-match?
They had a big game against the English last week, even if they had a little thwarted. We expected a big shock. Despite everything, the Canadians did not score, they stumbled on our defense and they were exhausted. They failed to remobilize.

What is your assessment of this World Cup?
Inevitably, it is mixed. Because we touched the World Cup with our fingertips. We still lack experience, it’s boring to say, we’ve been repeating the same thing for years. I think the group was very strong in this World Cup, through the exchanges between the young and the old, we managed to be together from start to finish. And we leave with a medal. In 20 years, when we say we won a bronze medal in New Zealand, the country of rugby, we will smile. So it’s mixed but we’re still happy. We are there, we will take stock and we will look for the next one. »
