Arthur Fils failed to repeat his feat against Fabio Fognini. In a very close match, the French lost this Tuesday in three sets (7-6 6-7 6-2) against the 59th in the world in the first round of the Rolex Paris Masters.
Qualifying winner Sunday facing this same Italian, the young 18-year-old player once again found himself facing Fabio Fognini, drafted because of the Matteo Berrettini package. Boosted, the 35-year-old tennis player directly set the tone by imposing a very dense rhythm with in particular four break points in the first set. But Arthur Fils (308th in the world) hung on to get the tie-break, which he finally lost.
In the second set, the Habs took the lead by raising their level of play, but very quickly the Italian came back to score. The Essonnien finally won the second set in the tie-break before completely cracking in the last set and letting the victory slip away in favor of Fabio Fognini.
The Italian will find the winner of the match between Grigor Dimitrov and Botic van de Zandschulp.
