Bayern Munich’s Moroccan defender Noussair Mazraoui, who contracted Covid-19 during the World Cup, is expected to be out for several weeks due to complications, the German club announced on Friday. Mazraoui, 25, had medical tests that showed inflammation of the pericardium – the membrane surrounding the heart – Bayern said, adding that their defender would miss the winter camp in Qatar as a result.
Bild evokes four to six weeks of absence
In the absence of an obligation to test against the Covid during the event, the reason for these absences had not been specified, after an initial injury contracted during the first group meeting against Croatia (0-0) November 23.
The duration of his unavailability is not mentioned by the German club, but the daily Picture suggests four to six weeks. Mazraoui’s absence is bad news for Bayern Munich, who are already dealing with serious injuries to their French international defender Lucas Hernandez (knee) and their goalkeeper and Captain Manuel Neuer (broken leg). They are both out for the remainder of the season.
