Bianca Andreescu knocks out Harmony Tan in US Open first round

Harmony Tan will not live at the US Open the same beautiful epic as at Wimbledon. The French was beaten by Bianca Andreescu in the first round of the US Open on Monday (6-0, 3-6, 6-1).

A strange match because, alas, the two players rarely played well at the same time. In the first set, the Canadian was the only one on the court. Tan was unable to contain his power and watched games go by for 25 minutes without being able to score a single one. Andreescu was on cloud nine with only one unforced error against his opponent’s 10. On 34 disputed points, the ratio was too much against the French and we could fear a real correction.

Luckily for her, Tan was able to react. First by improving his serving stats (52% of first serves against 41% in the first set) and thus putting a little more pressure on Andreescu. Serving better, she then managed to make the difference with her flat shots. Andreescu, she had lost control of the match and accumulated faults (15). Despite a flashback at the end of the set, she ended up swinging her last game back and offered the second set to the French. Everything was therefore going to be played out in a last set which promised to be very undecided.

Andreescu, visibly recovered, regained her efficiency from the first round. Tan, for his part, was falling back into his ways. A game with two double faults offered the break to Andreescu (2-0) who quickly broke away (3-0). His backhand was starting to hurt Tan very badly and he couldn’t find a solution. Over the last two games, Andreescu let go of the horses to regularly put his opponent several meters from the ball and win in this first round.
