Carlos Sainz (Ferrari): “I’m not very happy with the gap with Max”

Carlos Sainz (Ferrari), second in qualifying but on pole position following penalties from Max Verstappen: “I’m happy to start on pole, obviously, but I’m not very happy with the gap with Max (Verstappen) and the lead that Red Bull has over us this weekend. We have to keep digging to understand why Red Bull is so fast at this circuit. But pole is a good grid position and we will try to win tomorrow (sunday).

My first attempt in Q3 was cleaner. It was a bit of a mess in the two warm-up laps, playing with the draft, trying to see who wanted to be in front. In the end I had to lead, I had no draft and I had to ride in the open air. I’m still a little puzzled seeing this big gap with Red Bull, and that’s what makes me wonder what’s going to happen tomorrow (sunday) because I think our race pace is still a bit better than our qualifying pace. »
