Corentin Moutet, eliminated in the round of 16 of the US Open: “By playing badly, I can’t beat this kind of player”

” What is your feeling after that loss to Casper Ruud ?
I didn’t play very well, I was a bit tired from the previous six matches. It was hard to put on the intensity, to be good on the legs in the races. Today I missed a lot. Every time we lose, it’s disappointing. I’m disappointed because at the end of the day I lost the game.

Despite everything, the tournament remains positive, with a first round of 16 career, right?
There were positive things, but I won matches without playing very well either. There are lots of things to work on, lots of things to improve. I can play better than that. I can be better and I have to be better. There is work to be done in perspective.

“It gives me more indications for the future, on what I miss”

You will be 82nd in the world on Monday, can that open a few doors in tournaments?
If I ever get into the tables surely, but I will have to play Challengers again. I’m not ranked high enough to only do 250s or bigger tournaments.

Can this American week be a source of motivation for the future?
Doesn’t give me any extra excitement, no. I was always motivated to do more, I always trained, I didn’t wait to win matches like in those two weeks to be more enthusiastic or more motivated. It gives me more indications for the future, on what I miss. By playing badly, like I did today, I can’t beat that kind of player. »
