Corinne Deacon after the victory against Norway: “A match played with a lot of intelligence”

“What did you think of your team’s performance in a new 3-5-2 system?
It was a difficult but serious match, and above all played with a lot of intelligence. On the scheme used, there are still things to perfect, it’s a difficult system to animate, both offensively and defensively, it requires a lot of effort, not everything was perfect, but the players made the effort . That’s what I remember because in this system if you don’t make an effort it’s difficult.

The idea was also not to concede too many goals to stop the bleeding, if you can call it that. We score first on a situation that we had read well by observing the opponent, and a second goal on a set piece – we had been waiting for this for a long time. I’m happy with the overall performance, after an intelligent game from the players.

What was the idea behind this system change?
The idea was to defend a little more in number and to seek a little less high. The Norwegian team plays a little more in transition, so the idea was to have more space in the back. We exploited it very well on the first goal. Even if for me we didn’t do it enough, especially in recovering the ball in our camp.

Kadidiatou Diani shone next to Clara Mateo in attack…
She had an exceptional game. Kadi moves a lot, before with us she played a lot on the side, in the club, she plays a lot in front now. It was also an opportunity for me to see her as a top striker in this system. She was very well. We could have taken even more depth on certain actions. It’s a system that may work well for us, but that can still be worked on.

“The players who returned brought things”

Can we review this system between now and the World Cup?
Right now, I don’t know. At the start, it was mainly a one shot, with the idea of reassuring oneself defensively, after conceding five goals in two matches. We also lacked players, especially behind. It was an opportunity to see Elisa De Almeida again, and Eve Périsset in an axial role. There is no player who has not fulfilled her role. The players who came back brought things too.

Defensively, have you been reassured?
The Norwegians made differences on the right side. Delphine (Cascarino) has a slightly less defensive profile than (Sakina) Karchaoui, and this system requires finding the right position to thwart the side. But she did not balk, she made the effort, we rectified two or three things at halftime and it went better. »
