Declan Rice (England) wants to “go all the way” in the World Cup

On Sunday, England will face Senegal in the round of 16 of the World Cup. While waiting for this shock, the midfielder of the Three Lions Declan Rice appeared at a press conference on Thursday and he clearly displayed his ambition: that of winning the World Cup.

“When other nations look at the quality of our squad, why shouldn’t they fear us?he wondered. Look at the quality of our attackers, we have incredible, world-class players. And when we take the squad as a whole, we see that there are a lot of players who are used to playing high-level matches. […]. We want to prove that we are among the best nations, not only by winning in the round of 16, but by going all the way”.

Asked about the excitement sparked in England by the success of the Three Lions, Rice said: “It’s nice to see the videos in the country of the fans celebrating the goals we score. We will try to move forward in the competition and we hope that we can offer them the most Christmas present possible (the final will take place on December 18)”.

To justify such an ambition, the West Ham collector highlighted the qualities of the English group and its manager: “Our mentality is fantastic, we have players who win trophies every season, they have transmitted this winning mentality to the selection. This state of mind also owes a lot to the manager (Gareth Southgate), the way he talks to us, he’s so calm. He tells us “We are England, we are a team as strong as the others, we can beat anyone”. I remember for example that before the round of 16 of Euro 2021 against Germany (which the Three Lions won 2-0), I looked around me in the dressing room and I said to myself : “There is no chance that we will lose this game. » This is what we are looking for, this state of mind, so that it accompanies us on our journey. »

Rice confident in Rashford’s ability to win Golden Boot

Finally, Rice claimed that his teammate Marcus Rahsford, who has already scored three goals in this World Cup, could win the Golden Boot award for the best director of the competition: “As soon as he arrived at this gathering, he was one of the players who impressed me the most with his speed and his special technique with the ball. He comes out of a complicated season, but no one (in the group) never doubted his qualities I am delighted with what he manages to achieve at this level of the competition and I know that the whole group is too. There’s no reason why he couldn’t pick up the Golden Boot, considering the chances he created (in addition to his goals). It would be great if he could win it and I would be happy for him”.
