England and Canada through to World Cup semi-finals

On the waterlogged lawn of Waitakere Stadium in Auckland, England was relentless against a valiant but too physically limited Australia (41-5). The Red Roses, favorites of the World Cup, took advantage of the power of their pack to achieve a wide success in the quarter-finals and reach the last four of the competition without trembling.

In complicated weather conditions, the forwards of the English XV scored their team’s seven tries. Third-line Marlie Packer notably distinguished herself by finishing three times in the opposing in-goal (30th, 38th, 80th).

Canada beats USA again

In the semi-finals next Saturday at Eden Park, the Red Roses will meet Canada. In the 100% North American duel against the United States, it was Sophie De Goede and her teammates who emerged victorious (32-11), as in the group stage match (29-14), the week past. But the Canadians struggled to pull away, leading by just four points at the break.

In the other half, the France team, which largely dominated Italy (39-3) on Saturday in Whangarei, will face New Zealand, in great shape since the start of the World Cup and carried by a impressive popular momentum. In four matches in this World Cup, the Black Ferns have already scored 209 points, including 55 against Wales in the quarter-finals (55-3).
