“We want to help reduce reluctance in France”
Robbie Douek, President of BLAST: “It was a dream internally to work on a Major but, in recent years, we weren’t ready. We discussed it again at the beginning of 2022 and after hearing President Emmanuel Macron talk about it, we got started, convinced that it was now or never. Esport is an important discipline in France, there are a lot of players, fans… We couldn’t hope for better. France has positioned itself as a country that wants to host major events. The Rugby World Cup, the Olympic Games… And when the President does the same for esport, it’s not nothing. It is symbolic.
We have closely watched the changes in Denmark when the Prime Minister signed on to support esports. There, there are people of all generations in the stands. We want to participate in reducing reluctance in France, to convince to what extent counter strike is a strategic, collaborative game, which requires a lot of intelligence to evolve at the highest level. It’s also an easy-to-digest show. […] The format will not change, but we will bring different things in the scenography, the experience, with in particular the creation of an innovative channel dedicated to the Major. We want to bring more fan content around the event and we have a lot of ideas for that. »
