Unsurprisingly, it was a North American who lifted the Smash Con trophy in Chantilly (Virginia, USA) this Sunday evening, a major tournament on Super Smash Bros Ultimate. But not the one we expected: at 16, American Angel “Onin” Mireles won his third trophy of the summer by winning the grand final against Mexican Enrique “Maister” Solis. He had already beaten him in the final of the winner bracket Earlier in the day.
Armed with Steve, a divisive character on the license, the player truly revealed himself during the tournament. He successively defeated Leonardo “MKLeo” Lopez Perez, considered the best smash player in the world, then the Frenchman William “Glutonny” Belaïd, also seen as one of the greatest.
Glutonny will therefore only be able to claim a top 4, in a tournament overwhelmingly made up of Americans who have dominated the competitive scene for years. But he was able to console himself with a decisive victory against MKLeo in the lose bracket, eliminating the Mexican from the tournament for good.
The latter took his revenge in the Doubles tournament, disputed with the Spaniard Pau “Sisqui” Caire, where he triumphed over the duo formed by Glutonny and the Dominican Carlos “Sonix” Pérez before climbing into the grand final and s grab the trophy.
