Esteban Ocon (Alpine, 7th) at the Canal+ microphone: “It was an excellent race, we really had speed. I was able to go up and do some good overtaking, it was really cool. It was fun during this race and now we go to Zandvoort with a lot of confidence. I hope to be as competitive to continue to take points.
On the double overtaking with (Pierre) Gasly on (Sebastian) Vettel on the 36th lap: At that moment, you have to believe in it, you have to go for it. You have to unplug the brain as they say and then try. It was beautiful, it’s fun. We really performed this weekend, at the top, and we can be proud of ourselves overall on the evolution of the car over these last races. It’s not the end yet, there’s a lot to come. »
Charles Leclerc (Ferrari, 6th) at the Canal+ microphone: “At the first stop, unfortunately we couldn’t do otherwise, we had a small problem with the brakes. Bad luck because I was off to a good start. The race could be good, but with this stop, we lost everything. We had to start from behind and do very long stints with mediums. At the end, I stopped to try to set the fastest lap, but it was especially the first part of the race that put us in a bad situation.
(On the loss of 2nd place in the Championship) I don’t focus on the championship. Clearly the Red Bulls were on another planet today (sunday) and first you have to understand what’s going on because we’re much too slow. »
Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes, retired): On the clash with Alonso: “It’s my mistake, it’s my fault. I was ahead on the side. He was in my blind spot and I didn’t give him enough space. I thought I did but on rewatching the action, no. And I paid the price. I was in front but it was simply my fault. »
