Esteban Ocon (ninth, Alpine): “I think maybe the strategy wasn’t the best today (sunday)but in any case we still scored good points with both cars, which was important this weekend.
We had a very good rhythm all weekend, maybe if we had done different things, the story would not have been the same today (sunday). But even with something that was not optimal in strategy, I think we were still good during this race, and competitive. »
Fernando Alonso (eighth, Alpine): ” Yes he (Ocon) was quite extreme. Inevitably, I eased off at the start and nothing happened. This is surely a missed opportunity. At the start, I got off to a good start, but as I said, I don’t really have any comments to make. As for the strategy, I think we were too slow. This is the problem.
I don’t think a one stop strategy was worse than two stops, but our pace wasn’t as good today (sunday) only yesterday (Saturday). I don’t know if it was due to the conditions, the wind or the temperature. We seemed to be struggling with both compounds. Overall I think we should be proud and happy to have scored as many points as McLaren. We probably had higher expectations starting 5th and 6th. »
George Russell (third, Mercedes): “When I was on the grid with the softs and everyone was on mediums when it started to drizzle, I was rubbing my hands. After four laps we had built a three second lead but unfortunately the rain stopped, the soft was no longer the best tire and the medium riders started to close together.
We stopped quite early in both stints to manage the Ferraris and react. Unfortunately, it compromised us when the rain returned and we were on very worn medium tires trying to contain Carlos. (Sainz) and Lewis (Hamilton), which were on new soft tires. »
