George Russell (Brazilian GP winner): “I felt I had control over the race, Lewis (Hamilton) was super fast and when I saw the safety car, I said to myself: ‘Oh my god, it’s going to be a very difficult end of the race’. He put so much pressure on me but I’m very happy to come away with the win. What an incredible feeling! Many thanks to the whole team for making this possible. This season has been full of emotions.
In fact, I’m speechless. In the pit lap, all these memories came back to me like my debut in karting with my mother and father, all the support I received from the rest of my family, from my girlfriend, from my coach, from my manager. And then of course, people like Gwen (Lagrue, Mercedes junior program manager)who gave me the chance to join the Mercedes programme, James Vowles (responsible for strategy) and Toto (Wolff, team manager). The list is endless. I thank them very much and I am very proud. »
