He was one of the “best old men” of Saint-Raphaël and the Spanish team. At the age of 38, Daniel Sarmiento has decided to stop defying the passage of time and announces the end of his career, after having won a title of world champion (2013), two European champions (2018, 2020) and a Olympic bronze medal (2021) with the Hispanos.
In the jersey of the Var club, whose game he had been orchestrating since 2016, he notably played in an EHF Cup (C2) final in 2018. Previously, the center half from the Canary Islands had abundantly filled his backpack under the colors FC Barcelona, between 2009 and 2016: two Champions Leagues (2011, 2015) and six Spanish championship titles in particular.

Two of his compatriots will follow him in the lead at SRVHB: Sergio Perez (21, ex-Huesca) and Chema Marquez (25, ex-Granollers). Sarmiento is the second Var player to retire after Xavier Barachetand one of eight to leave the club.
