The beautiful story between Valero Rivera and HBC Nantes continues. On Monday, the Loire club announced that the Spanish left winger, also captain of the team, had extended his contract for one season. Rivera (37) is now tied to Nantes until 2024.
After knowing different teams in Spain, including FC Barcelona, Valero Rivera settled in Nantes for the first time in 2010. He stayed there for six seasons, being twice a finalist in the EHF Cup and once best player in the French Championship (in 2012).
Rivera then left for FC Barcelona for two years, before returning to Nantes in 2018. Also a Spanish international, he was crowned world champion in 2013 then European champion in 2018. In 2024, he will have played 12 seasons in the jersey Nantes, which will constitute a record in the history of the club.
