Coming from the qualifications, Jack Draper had however reached the quarter-finals of the Masters 1000 in Montreal, after having offered Stefanos Tsitsipas in the second round and then having benefited from the abandonment of Gaël Monfils in eighths. But, on Friday, in the quarter-finals, the young 20-year-old Briton, ranked 82nd at the ATP, was eliminated by the Spaniard Pablo Carreno-Busta (7-6 [4]6-1), 23rd player in the world.
After a balanced start to the match, Draper was broken at 3-3. But he was able to catch up, taking in turn the service of Carreno-Busta, while he was leading 5-4. In the deciding game, the Briton first tied with his opponent (4-4), before dropping on the last three points.
Draper collapses in round two
On the other hand, in the second set, Jack Draper was powerless, losing his service from the start (at 1-1) and being broken again, while Pablo Carreno-Busta led 4-1. While serving for the match, the Spanish player had a bit of trouble finishing. He needed three match points and above all saved a break point.
In the semi-finals, Carreno-Busta will face another Briton, Daniel Evans, winner of the American Tommy Paul (1-6, 6-3, 6-4).
