Yuta Nakayama will not participate in the World Cup. While the Japanese international (25 years old, 17 selections) appeared on the list of 26 players selected for Qatarhe seriously injured his Achilles tendon during a game on Wednesday with Huddersfield, currently bottom of Championship. The central defender will undergo an operation which will make him unavailable for the rest of the season.
Above the “big blow” that this prolonged absence represents for Huddersfield, “We are devastated that Yuta will not be able to join Japan for the World Cup, an experience he totally deserved”reacted his trainer Mark Fotheringham.
Coach Hajime Moriyasu had not yet announced Nakayama’s replacement for the competition, scheduled from November 20 to December 18, on Friday. The Japanese are in a particularly strong Group E, as they will face Germany on November 23, Costa Rica on November 27 and Spain on December 1.
