Undefeated for three matches in all competitions, AS Roma fell this Sunday during the derby against Lazio. José Mourinho’s players lost by the narrowest of margins (0-1), in a melting Olympic stadium.
Roma had however started the meeting better with a first strike from Tammy Abraham on which Ivan Provedel fell well (2nd). It was then Nicolo Zaniolo who took his chance, without managing to frame (5th). Not really in danger, the Louve cracked on an error from Ibanez who, pressed by Pedro in his area, lost the ball. This one landed in the feet of Felipe Anderson who cleverly deceived Rui Patricio, the Roma goalkeeper (29th). Too clumsy in front of the opposing goal, José Mourinho’s men failed to equalize despite attempts by Zaniolo (33rd) on the bar or Pellegrini (39th).
Lazio on the podium
Roma’s second half was hardly any better offensively. Smalling’s header did not find the frame on a corner from Pellegrini (52nd) who had to leave his teammates in stride, hit in the right thigh and replaced by Volpato (54th). Lazio did not go far from the break but Rui Patricio made a superb tap on a strike from Felipe Anderson, depriving the Brazilian of the double (72nd).
This narrow victory allows Lazio to overtake Roma on which it now has a two-point lead and above all to climb on the podium where it steals 3rd place from Atalanta Bergamo.
