Lens dominates Troyes and restarts in Ligue 1

The game: 1-0

Five days after struggling ten against eleven to return from Reims with one point (1-1), RC Lens resumed their march forward this Friday evening in Ligue 1. On their lawn, the Sang et Or obtained a deserved success against Les Troyens who offered a solid resistance but struggled too much to be dangerous (1-0). Still undefeated this season, Franck Haise’s players temporarily take the chair of the Championship leader, pending the meetings of PSG and OM this Saturday.

The Lensois relied on a fixed phase to break through the defense of Estac. On a plunging free kick from Przemyslaw Frankowski, Kevin Danso placed a header which left no chance for Gauthier Gallon (39th). A goal which freed Bollaert after a frustrating first half hour which saw Loïs Openda find the post at close range (6th) and, above all, Jonathan Gradit leaves home with broken collarbone (16th).

Still just as playful and ambitious with the ball, Lens nevertheless struggled to generate chances against a very compact Estac in front of their surface. We had to rely on transitions or opponent errors to afford break points. Jimmy Cabot missed the target (43rd) and Seko Fofana saw his flat foot taken out of goal by Jackson Porozo after a missed raise from Adil Rami (57th). Kept alive by these inaccuracies, Troyes had a few chances to afford an unexpected point. But Mama Baldé pushed Brice Samba to a first save (59th) and missed the equalizing ball late in the game (81st). It would have been necessary to be more sharp to make flinch these very applied Lensois who knew how to calmly manage the last minutes.

For the third time in its history after the 1957-58 and 2001-02 seasons, Lens has not lost any of its first 7 matches in the first division.

The player: Gallon had paved the way for an equalizer

Cornered in their camp, the Trojans managed to stay in the game also thanks to their last bastion. Little used in the first period, Gauthier Gallon made the necessary saves to allow Estac to foresee the scenario of a draw at the end of the game. The Burgundian goalkeeper first deflected a header from Florian Sotoca at close range (69th) on his crossbar. Then he slammed an attempt by Openda on the right side (70th) for a corner.

Frustrated by the Trojan density at the heart of the game, Lens was forced to adapt and invest heavily in the corridors, especially with his pistons. The Blood and Gold have flooded the Trojan surface with dangerous centers. Symbol of this physiognomy, the only Jimmy Cabot has crossed more than 10 times from his right side. The entry of Adam Buksa and his imposing size seemed to be able to make this trend bear fruit. But the Polish striker still seemed to run out of pace.
