Les Bleues claim 3rd place in the World Cup

Les Bleues clinched 3rd place in the Rugby 7s World Cup on Sunday evening: the French women easily dominated the United States (29-7) and won the bronze medal. Olympic vice-champions in the discipline, they confirm their status on the international scene.

Widely beaten (38-7) in the semi-finals by New Zealand, double defending champion and Olympic champion in Tokyo last year, the French have never really been worried. Lili Dezou (3rd, 7th) scored twice in the first period (12-0 at the break), and even if Naya Tapper (9th) reduced the mark, Alycia Chrystiaens (11th), Joanna Grisez (14th) and Ian Jason (15th) supported the resounding success of Les Bleues.

Earlier in the day, the United States had been defeated by the Australians (17-7) in the other semi-final. The final will pit Australia against New Zealand (Sunday evening, 8:17 p.m.). The latter is the defending champion, for both women and men.
