Ligue 1: OM snatches victory from Monaco at the last second

The game: 2-3

Before stepping aside to make way for the World Cup until the end of December, Ligue 1 offered a last game with twists and turns this Sunday. OM snatched victory at the last second against Monaco at the Louis-II stadium (3-2), to settle in fourth place in the standings, one point behind Rennes, third. If the show has been tarnished by the serious injury of Moroccan international Amine Harit, OM managed to find the resources to win, after opening the scoring before being behind.

Relieved after their success against Lyon last weekend (1-0), which came to end a bad spiral, OM snatched a crazy success to erase a delicate month of October. After equalizing in the 83rd minute, by the future Mondialiste Jordan Veretout, the Marseillais won at the last second when Sead Kolasinac deflected a free kick from Dimitri Payet (90th + 7) with a header. The Monegasques strongly criticized the refereeing, while Fofana’s foul on Payet seemed unclear, but Mr Bastien remained adamant.

Before this incredible scenario at the end of the match, OM made a big start at the Louis-II stadium, against Monegasques who have been in great shape in recent weeks. The four-man defense concocted by ASM coach Philippe Clement, with Axel Disasi on the right side, has indeed left spaces that OM have taken advantage of. After the failures of Tavares (2nd), Guendouzi (9th), Harit (16th) or Gigot (24th), Marseille’s intentions were rewarded by the genius of Alexis Sanchez, author of a memorable free kick (35th, see below below).

But Igor Tudor’s team did not enjoy it for long. While he was less feverish in recent weeks, Argentinian defender Leonardo Balerdi hung Krépin Diatta on the right of the surface. Wissam Ben Yedder did not miss the penalty (see below) to put ASM back in the game (45th).

Monaco then accelerated and took the lead thanks to Kevin Volland (72nd). Perfectly launched in depth by Alexandre Golovin, himself found by the excellent Mohamed Camara (72nd), the German thought he had killed the suspense, while the emotion around Harit’s injury was still strong. But OM found an unsuspected additional force, in front of a crazy parking lot.

The fact: the serious injury of Amine Harit

Injured in the left knee during a duel with Axel Disasi shortly before the hour mark, Amine Harit left the field on a stretcher. The severity of his injury is not yet known, but the devastated faces of the 22 actors suggest the worst. The 25-year-old has a strong chance of withdrawing from the World Cup (November 20 – December 18), which he was due to play with Morocco. After feeling the blow for several minutes, his teammates found the mental resources to turn the game around.

The player: Alexis Sanchez offers himself a jewel

Alexis Sanchez ended two months of personal scarcity in Ligue 1 with a sublime free kick at the Louis-II stadium (35th). The Chilean, who had not scored from a direct free kick since April 17, 2017 (with Arsenal against Middlesbrough), rolled his right ball powerfully 20 meters from Nübel’s goal, helpless. He himself had obtained the fault from Benoît Badiashile. Sanchez could also have been a decisive passer, but Samuel Gigot did not take advantage of his lag, when he was alone at the penalty spot (24th).
