Logan Sargeant validates his Super License and will join Williams

It was the only real challenge of the last Formula 2 weekend in Abu Dhabi, Felipe Drugovich (MP Motorsports) having already secured the title for a long time. Was Logan Sargeant going to validate a sufficient ranking to obtain the Super License and ensure his seat at Williams next year?

After two solid races, Saturday (sprint) and Sunday (main), the American has achieved his goal, even if he is shown to be rather stressed by what is at stake at times. This did not prevent him from succeeding in a few daring maneuvers, such as his overtaking on Roy Nissany, en route to 5th place in the main race which definitively validated his final classification (4th) and the Super License points.

Pourchaire retires but finishes 2nd in the championship

He was almost sure of it even before the checkered flag following a problem experienced by Jack Doohan (one of the drivers who had to overtake him to deprive him of his sesame). The Australian lost a wheel coming out of the pits after his stop. Sargeant will become the first American in Formula 1 since Alexander Rossi in 2015.

The event was won by Ayumu Iwasa (DAMS) who fought to the end with the champion, Drugovich. Long in the race for a place of honour, the Frenchman Théo Pourchaire (ART Grand Prix) was forced to retire a few laps from the finish due to a mechanical breakdown. He still finished second in the championship this year but a good distance from the champion (265 points against 164).
