Marco Reus (Germany) is expected to miss the World Cup

While Hansi Flick is due to announce this Thursday the list of players who will fly to Qatar to compete in the next World Cup (November 20-December 18), Marco Reus (33) should not be part of it. Sky Sports indeed announced in the morning the package of the captain of Borussia Dortmund due to pain in the right ankle.

Reus injured ankle ligaments with his club in mid-September before returning a month later. He had then again felt pain in his ankle, again forcing him to stop. Back for a second time in the victory against Bochum on Saturday in the Bundesliga (3-0)he would still have been hampered by his ankle.

A curse of major competitions

Marco Reus had already had to give up the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, and therefore a world championship title, this time because of a left ankle injury. He had also been forfeited for Euro 2016 in France and had experienced elimination from the group stage at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
