A return to basics. Trained as a defender at River Plate between 1998 and 2003, Martin Demichelis returned to Buenos Aires to launch his career as head coach. The former Argentinian international (41 years old, 51 caps, 2 goals) has agreed to succeed Marcelo Gallardo, winner of 14 titles in eight years. Bayern Munich, whose reserve team had been led by Demichelis since the spring of 2021, announced this in a press release on Monday.
“I came to Europe as a River player at Bayern in 2003, now I’m going the other way as a coach, declares the one who started as a technician with the U19s of the Bavarian club, from 2019 to 2021. What an incredible story! I am proud to have been part of the Bayern family twice (2003-2010 as a player, 2019-2022 as a coach), and I would like to thank everyone who made this possible for me and supported me. I leave this club with much gratitude in my heart and now look forward to the great task of my second heart club. »
On the Bayern reserve bench, Martin Demichelis finished runners-up in the Bavarian Regional League last season, and leaves his team in fifth position in this Championship. The German club has announced its replacement: Holger Seitz, a member of the club’s staff since 2015.
