Matthis Lebel: “Australia is capable of offering an extraordinary game”

“Isn’t the time too long?”
I think there is above all a lot of impatience to arrive very quickly at the deadline of the match (France-Australia, November 5, 9 p.m. at the Stade de France). Afterwards, you also have to get back into the mould, time to find the collective benchmarks. In the end, our days are full enough to reclaim everything. So we don’t have too much time to get bored.

Have you started studying Australia?
At first, we focused on us and then we started looking at some images of Australia to be as precise as possible on the day of the match. This match will happen very quickly. We have one high intensity training left on Saturday and we will already be in Australia week.

“When Antoine Dupont speaks, we listen to him. It’s often hard-hitting, very fair and if you listen to it, as a rule it happens as it says. If it is necessary to remobilize the guys, he is able to push his little rant too “

What have you already noted about them?
It is a very athletic team, with strong individualities on the man. This is a parameter to take into account. Then, collectively, it’s a team capable of offering an extraordinary game, which few others are able to reproduce, and which can also have small gaps. It may be necessary to contain the moment when they play like the best team in the world and exploit the few loopholes that exist in their system.

Your partner at Stade Toulousain, Antoine Dupont, has been confirmed in his role as captain, you know him very well. Is this a role made for him?
I think so. Even without giving him the title of captain, I believe that he sets such an example on and off the pitch, through the commitment he also puts in, to develop the team and bring it to its best level, we say to ourselves that it is an almost logical choice, which is made naturally. He has this ability to take guys without making big speeches. When he speaks, we listen to him. It’s often hard-hitting, very fair and if you listen to it, as a rule it happens as it says. If the guys have to be remobilized, he is capable of pushing his little rant too. With everything he has done, he has nothing left to prove and I think we are all happy to be led by a captain like Antoine Dupont. »
