Max Verstappen (Red Bull) after his victory at the Italian GP: “I finally have my victory here”

Max Verstappen (Red Bull driver, winner at the Italian GP on Sunday ahead of Leclerc and Russell): “We were the fastest on all tire compounds. We deserve the victory, the car was really very efficient. We just had to manage the gap during the last laps. It’s a pity not to have been able to resume the race, but it’s a beautiful day. The start went well, especially at the chicane, I was able to quickly move up to second place. Everything went well with the tyres, it was really nice to drive this car in these conditions. I finally have my podium and my victory here! »

Charles Leclerc (Ferrari driver, 2nd): “The end of the race was frustrating, we don’t like to finish like that. What happened before led us to second place, but that’s a shame. I was hoping to be able to win in front of the tifosi, I’m disappointed. We didn’t know what Red Bull was going to do behind us, but we made the choice to return during the VSC. I’m not happy with the race because we finished 2nd. Our pace was solid but not enough to win. »

George Russell (Mercedes, 3rd): “We were able to get this podium and keep it, it’s great teamwork. We remain on four podiums in the last five races, it’s a good series. Max (Verstappen) and Charles (Leclerc) were too fast for us, so we did our best to get the best possible result. »
