Max Verstappen (Red Bull) in front of the Ferraris during the 3rd free practice session of the French GP

Third free practice session for the French Grand Prix this Saturday and it was Max Verstappen who was the fastest at Le Castellet. With his Red Bull, he was about four tenths ahead of Carlos Sainz’s Ferrari, which will start at the back of the grid on Sunday, after a fourth change of engine element. The Dutchman, leader of the driver standings, finished this session seven tenths ahead of Charles Leclerc, the other Ferrari driver.

Lewis Hamilton remains less than a second behind the reference time held by Verstappen, as during the second session of free practice on Friday. Already a winner on the Paul-Ricard circuit in 2018 and 2019, the Briton thus positioned himself in ambush before qualifying, he who is still looking for a first success on a Grand Prix this season.

On the French side, it was a more discreet session than those of Friday. Pierre Gasly, who was on a good pace, finished his session on Saturday more than a second off the best lap (13th) and Esteban Ocon, already struggling after less successful new features in his Alpine single-seater, is two seconds behind ( 17th).
