The iconic 2003 Ferrari driven by seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher was sold at auction on Wednesday in Geneva for the record sum of 13 million Swiss francs, or just over 13 million euros.
It is precisely the F2003-GA Chassis 229 with which the German won six races during the 2003 season (Spain, Austria, Canada, Italy and the United States). The car also took three pole positions and clinched two podiums in Monaco and France, helping Schumacher claim a sixth world championship title.
A record amount
The single-seater was awarded to “a record price for a Formula 1 of the modern era”, said the Sotheby’s auctioneer, after knocking down the hammer. This is almost double the record of 7.5 million dollars held by another Ferrari car also driven by the German champion, during the 2001 Formula 1 season.
