Monaco dominates Lyon

The game: 2-1

Four days after losing at home against Lorient (1-3) in a late match of the 2nd day of Ligue 1, Olympique Lyonnais suffered a new setback this Sunday, at the end of the 7th day. Peter Bosz’s players, far too clumsy in front of Nübel’s goal, lost on the lawn of Monaco (2-1) where they were playing their first big test of the season. The Monegasques proved to be more realistic by scoring two goals from set pieces (56th, 63rd).

The biggest chance of the first period came from Krépin Diatta whose recovery, following a cross from Golovine, came crashing down on the right post of Lopes who was beaten instantly ( 15th). In the next minute, Vanderson crossed for the header from Embolo, easily captured by the Lyon goalkeeper who again intervened at the end of the first period to repel a powerful strike from Golovine.

The Lyonnais also had several opportunities: through Lacazette, who was initially too short to head an interesting cross from Malo Gusto (10th). The recovery of the Lyon captain was then captured by Nübel (31st). It was then Tetê who took his chance but his powerful recovery did not find the target, nor did the pivot shot from Lacazette (35th). Tagliafico (36th) then again Tetê (45th+2), were no more successful.

The Lyonnais had two new chances by Lacazette (47th) then Tetê (53rd) before the Monegasques opened the scoring following a corner from Caio Henrique who found the head of Badiashile, dropped in the marking by Thiago Mendes ( 56th). Seven minutes later, the Brazilian, from a free kick, found the header of Maripan who was celebrating his 100th match with ASM with a goal (63rd). The Lyonnais pushed and Cherki, entered in the 75th minute in place of Thiago Mendes, crossed for the recovery of Toko Ekambi (81st). The Lyonnais pushed but neither Dembélé (90th), countered by Nübel, nor Lacazette who missed the target (90th +2) managed to snatch the equalizer.

This third success in a row puts the Monegasques, who climb to 7th place two points behind their evening opponent, in excellent condition before going to challenge Ferencvaros in the Europa League. On the other hand, for Lyon, it will be a question of remobilizing before facing Paris, next Sunday, in order to avoid a third loss in a row.

The player: Caio Henrique, super passer

If the Monegasque left-hander delivered nine assists in 34 Ligue 1 matches last season, Caio Henrique is already almost half that total in five matches. Already author of a decisive pass from a corner for Badiashile against Lens (1-4) during the 3rd day, the 25-year-old Brazilian did it again this Sunday evening to unlock the match against OL. His corner kick in the 56th minute again found the head of the number 5 of the Principality team. A few minutes later, it was from a free kick that Caio Henrique again proved decisive: he perfectly found the header of Maripan who scored his team’s second goal with a header. The performance of the Brazilian is however tarnished by his involvement in the reduction of the Lyon score where he is too easily eliminated by Cherki.

This is the number of shots attempted this Sunday evening by the Lyonnais on the lawn of Monaco. Alexandre Lacazette and his teammates framed only 6 attempts.
