Call it “performance center”. The day after the victory of his first team against OGC Nice (1-0), AS Monaco inaugurated its new training center on Monday morning, set up against the rock of La Turbie, where the Principality’s players have already been training for several decades.
It’s been more than a year since Wissam Ben Yedder and his partners took up residence in the state-of-the-art seven-storey building which cost Dimitri Rybolovlev, the president of the ASM, €55 million, but the inauguration was awaiting the delivery of the third grass pitch and its stand.
Dimitri Rybolovlev excused for health reasons
The set now complete, two hundred guests and forty journalists were present to attend the event. In addition to the arrival of Philippe Clement’s staff and a few players from the workforce – Wissam Ben Yedder, Alexander Nübel, Axel Disasi, Youssouf Fofana, Guillermo Maripan -, several former glories of the club had made the trip – Didier Deschamps, Youri Djorkaeff, Claude Puel, Jean-Luc Ettori, Jean Petit – as well as leading Monegasque personalities such as pilot Charles Leclerc.
The inauguration was held in the presence of HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco, Ekaterina Rybolovleva, the daughter of President Rybolovlev, and Juan Sartori, the latter’s son-in-law and vice-president of the club. Only Dimitri Rybolovlev himself was missing, excused for “a health concern” according to his daughter, who read for her father the speech that the latter had prepared.
