Napoli corrects Liverpool in the Champions League

Only seventh in the Premier League after seven days, Liverpool is having a sluggish start to the domestic season. These difficulties were confirmed on Wednesday evening in Naples, as part of the first day of the group stage of the Champions League (group A). The Reds, apathetic for the most part, logically bowed to the Azzurri (1-4), who delivered a performance full of enthusiasm and initiative, while five of the holders of this team discovered the Champions League on this occasion.

Piotr Zielinski opened the scoring with a penalty following a hand from James Milner in his area, on a strike from the Pole (1-0, 5th). After another penalty, missed this time by Victor Osimhen (18th) and a miraculous save from Virgil Van Dijk on a shot from the excellent Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (28th), Napoli doubled the lead through Zambo Anguissa, after a sublime one- two achieved with the inevitable Zielinski (2-0, 31st).

Then Giovanni Simeone, who had just come on after an injury to Osimhen (41st), scored the third goal, taking advantage of a festival from Kvaratskhelia, which erased a cataclysmic Joe Gomez (and logically replaced at the break by Joel Matip). The start of the second period was a carbon copy of the first minutes of the first act, with an impressive takeover by the Azzurri, who scored a fourth time on a counter concluded by Zielinski, in two stages (4-0, 47th).

The reduction in Luis Diaz’s score, with a curled shot (4-1, 49th), proved to be as spectacular as it was anecdotal, as Liverpool ultimately proved to be not very dangerous, like Salah and Firmino, unrecognizable. Thanks to this great success, Naples takes second place in Group A, behind Ajaxwinner at home of Rangers (4-0) earlier in the day.
