Nevers concedes a draw, caught on the wire by Biarritz in Pro D2

Biarritz Olympique, relegated to Pro D2 after a nightmare season in the top flightsnatched the 22-22 draw at Nevers on Thursday evening at the start of the fourth day.

Led 22-15, the Basques were heading for a third defeat in a row when a last minute try from Joe Jonas (80th + 4) and a corner transformation from Gilles Bosch allowed them to take the two points from a draw. They go up provisionally from 14th to 10th place while Nevers nibbles three ranks (4th) while waiting for Friday’s matches.

Before this breathtaking final, the Biarrots had scored two other tries, by Thomas Sauveterre (25th) and Bastien Soury (60th), against one from Lucas Blanc (39th) for the Burgundians. Nevers, despite his numerical inferiority after the red card of his third row Steven David (41st), guilty of a header on Soury, believed he had a third success in a row thanks to the efficiency at the foot of Shaun Reynolds ( 5 penalties including one of 52 meters). But it was without counting on Basques united and more players, finally rewarded at the last minute.
