Very few benchmarks from the day before were used by the drivers, this Saturday, during free practice 3 of the Hungarian Grand Prix. While the sun shone brightly on Friday, it gave way to rain and a soaked track. The times therefore had nothing to do with the single-seaters running around 25 seconds slower.
In these conditions, the session gave birth to a surprise as Nicholas Latifi set the fastest time in his Williams. With intermediate tyres, the Canadian grabbed first place in the final seconds with a lap time of 1’41”480.
Ocon 13th, Gasly 20th
Latifi pushed Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) back to second place. The Monegasque, who had dominated EL2, finds himself relegated to more than half a second (+0”661). Alexander Albon, the other Williams driver, ranks 3rd (+0”901).
Before qualifying scheduled for 4 p.m. in still uncertain conditions, Max Verstappen (Red Bull) finished the session in 4th position. Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) is 11th, Esteban Ocon (Alpine) 13th and Pierre Gasly (AlphaTauri) 20th.
