Norway remain European champions after a match long dominated by Denmark (27-25). But this ninth title in their history seemed impossible for a long time as the Danes had control over the match.
It will, in fact, have had to wait for the last six minutes to see the Norwegians take the score on their own, thanks to the parades of the stainless goalkeeper Katrine Lunde (42 years old) who offers herself a sixth European coronation, a record to beat. In this boiling end to the match, Lunde made four saves which made it possible to reverse the direction of this final which we thought was promised to the Danes.
Shy at the start of the tournament, right-back Nora Mork proved decisive in the final (8 goals on 9 shots). A performance all the more striking as the Danish cage was defended by Sandra Toft (11 saves, 30%), voted best player in the world in 2021.
As a bonus, this continental title validates Norway’s ticket to the Paris-2024 Olympic Games.
