Pierre-Olivier Murat (Rodez) after the incident on board the plane: “Everyone was afraid for their lives”

“How are the players and your staff doing? after the plane crash you suffered this Friday morning?
We are very shocked. It was really impressive. I fly a lot and there I was very, very scared. Everyone feared for their lives.

Can you tell us what exactly happened?
Ten minutes after take-off from Rodez airport (around 9:40 a.m.), we smelled a strong burning smell in the cabin. And then everything was very sudden. In less than a minute, the whole cabin was smoky. I was in the front row and I couldn’t even see the end of the plane. The hostesses quickly arrived to ask us to wet fabrics and stick them on our face to help us breathe. We had water bottles and we wet clothes. It had to because the burning smell was really strong. Then the plane turned around and came to rest.

“We ate together: we needed to decompress and stay as a group. We came together and released our fear”

What was your first reaction when you landed?
We were very relieved. We called our families and had the club doctor come directly to the airport to stay with us. We ate together: we needed to decompress and stay as a group. We came together and released our fear.

Were you told why the plane had encountered a problem in flight?
No, we haven’t been told anything yet. We have not had any feedback or information on the reasons for the incident…

“We can’t travel by bus otherwise we have to leave the day after the previous match (laughs) »

When did you make the decision to request the postponement of the meeting scheduled for this evening at Guingamp?
As soon as we landed. We made the request to the League very quickly. We did not have a plane available to leave and we are too far to make the trip by coach. Anyway, no one was in a condition to play and it was therefore not possible to maintain the meeting. The club doctor has sent several reports to attest to the players’ inability to play tonight’s game. But all this is secondary, the most important thing is that everyone is alive.

Would you like to play the match next week?
We will comply with the decision of the League. We have planned to train tomorrow because we are very tense and we need to clean up. But training will be really quiet and if we have to play next week we will.

What are you going to do for your next trips?
We don’t really have a choice, we’re going to fly back. We can’t travel by bus otherwise we have to leave the day after the previous match (laughs). But I can assure you there won’t be much noise on the plane on our next trip. »
