Polish goalkeeper Bartlomiej Dragowski seriously injured his right ankle on Sunday with his club La Spezia, against Hellas Verona (1-2) in Serie A, by tackling Verona striker Kevin Lasagna outside his penalty area just before half-time. At the sight of his deformed ankle, all the players quickly called the healers, before the goalkeeper came out on a stretcher.
After the match won by La Spezia (2-1), Liguria coach Luca Gotti confirmed that his goalkeeper should give up the call-up for Qatar: “The first thing to say is that he will not be able to leave for the World Cup, he was supposed to leave tomorrow (Monday), he explained to the microphone of DAZN. We don’t have any confirmed information yet, exams are ongoing, it’s definitely not a light injury.”he added.
With two selections, the 25-year-old doorman is one of the understudy of Poland holder Wojciech Szczesny (Juventus). FC Copenhagen goalkeeper Kamil Grabara replaces him numerically in Poland’s World Cup roster (November 20 – December 18).
Poland is in Group C with Mexico, whom it faces on November 22 (5 p.m.), Saudi Arabia, its opponent on November 26 (2 p.m.) and Argentina, whom it challenges on November 30 ( 20 hours).
