Rafael Nadal after his loss to Auger-Aliassime at the Masters: “I haven’t forgotten how to play tennis”

“How do you analyze this setback against Félix Auger-Aliassime ?
I failed to seize my opportunities. I lose a terrible game at 4-3 in the first set. I fought until the end but when it happens like that, it is difficult to change the dynamic and the result, especially in these circumstances. On this surface, against a big server and a big player… We have to accept what happened: an opponent who played the key points better.

“I don’t know if I’m going to reach this level again, but what I’m sure is that I’m going to die for it”

Given that you haven’t played much lately, are there positive things to take away from your last matches despite the defeats?
It has been six difficult months, at all levels. When you face all that, being there is positive. Live what I have lived these last weeks on the courts (three losses in a row), this is not a big surprise. But that doesn’t mean it doesn’t sadden me. I was able to play two tournaments in the last three weeks, it’s a positive point since it’s something I hadn’t done for a while.

What do you think is missing?
I don’t think I forgot how to play tennis, how to feel strong enough mentally. I just need to get those positive feelings back and all that confidence, that mentality to be where I want to be. I don’t know if I’m going to reach this level again, but what I’m sure is that I’m going to die for it. »
