Referees ‘await exemplary sanctions’ after weekend incidents in Ligue 1 and Ligue 2

The referees “await exemplary sanctions” after the intrusion in Metz on Monday and Kimpembe’s gesture on Saturday. Without expressly citing these two incidents, the SAFE (elite referees) and the UNAF (amateur world) point “shocking images and facts” and “expect from the FFF and LFP that exemplary decisions and sanctions are taken”.

Both organizations further appeal “to the Minister of Sports to make sure personally”emphasizing “these gestures and acts of violence […] who give a very bad image of football towards the amateur world” and “cause ever more difficulties in the fulfillment of the mission of referees of amateur competitions in leagues and districts”.

Disciplinary Committee Wednesday

Monday evening, during Metz-Guingamp in Ligue 2 (3-6), marked by three expulsions on the Lorraine side, a spectator rushed to the lawn of Saint-Symphorien to do battle with the referee. Judging that his safety was no longer assured, Mr. Gaillouste stopped the meeting which could not resume until 25 minutes later.

Two days earlier, in Ligue 1, during PSG-Brest (1-0), Presnel Kimpembe, after a tackle pressed on Irvin Cardona, had pushed back the arm of the referee, Mr. Pignard, who intervened to disperse a start of a crowd, in particular slightly pushing the Parisian defender, the latter accompanying his gesture in response to the apostrophe “Wesh, don’t touch me brother”.

The League Disciplinary Committee meets on Wednesday.
