Rouen continues its faultless in pain and regains the lead in the classification

Fans of suspenseful scenarios were spoiled this Friday during the third day of Pro D2. Quickly surprised by a try from Maxime Lafage (3-10, 12th), Rouen picked up before going ahead just before the break thanks to a try from Lucas Costa and a penalty from Peter Lydon (11-10, 40th). Upon returning from the locker room, the match hung on and tipped over to a penalty try with a yellow card sent to Nathanaël Hulleu, on loan from UBB, for a voluntary forward (21-13, 71st).

While we thought the Vannetais knocked out, they came back thanks to less than a converted try thanks to the boot of Quentin Etienne (21-16, 74th). In a tense end to the match, Vannes failed a few centimeters from the line after the siren to come and snatch the victory allowing the Rouennais to regain the lead of the classification with three victories in three matches.

Suspense in all encounters

At the bottom of the table, the promoted Massy did much better than during his first two meetings but finally lost by one point against last year’s semi-finalist, Nevers (15-16). Another more unexpected protagonist at the back of the class, Provence Rugby believed to unlock its counter but was picked on a penalty from Thomas Girard after the siren (16-17) and remains penultimate. Same scenario in Carcassonne where the Audois snatch victory (26-24) against Béziers.

The other two meetings also gave their share of stress to the supporters since Stade Aurillacois won a precious victory at promoted Soyaux-Angoulême (15-19) while, despite having started badly (0-11, 11th), Montauban succeeded to return Agen to the wire (26-25).
