Two days before the OM-Lille meeting as part of the 7th day of Ligue 1, the two French teams could face each other without their common official sponsor. The Cazoo company, based in London, announced on Thursday that it had to cease its activities within the European Union because of its financial difficulties.
The company wishes to focus solely on the English market. In France, the Phocaeans and the Northerners are concerned by this announcement since they have concluded a “multi-year agreement” at the start of the season with the British. In Europe, Aston Villa (England), Valencia, Real Sociedad (Spain), Freiburg (Germany) and Bologna (Italy) are also partners of Cazoo.
750 jobs will be cut
According The Financial Times, the group will try to put an end to the various sponsorships linked to football clubs in Europe by eliminating 750 jobs. The company founded in 2018 by Alex Chesterman announced last August that it had suffered a loss of 243 million pounds sterling (280 M€) for the first half of 2022, that is to say more than double what it had already lost last year.
For the time being, the French clubs have not communicated on this news.
