Sporting Portugal offers Tottenham in the last moments of the Champions League

Sporting Portugal and Tottenham, respectively winners in Frankfurt (3-0) and against OM (2-0) on the first day of the Champions League last week, have long played a hung duel at the José Alvalade stadium in Lisbon . But the Lions, thanks to a huge heart, a real tactical coherence and the contribution of their bench, brought down the Spurs in the last moments (2-0). This very big blow allows them to take the lead of group D with six points. OM and Eintracht Frankfurt, who face off this Tuesday evening at the Vélodrome, could come back up to Tottenham if successful.

And yet, Lloris had been great…

The territorial domination of Sporting, carried by several talented players (Inacio, Trincao, Porro…), considerably hampered Tottenham. But the match was closed for a long time, while the two goalkeepers shone. The French world champion Hugo Lloris (Tottenham) first stopped a vicious shot from Pote (7th), before achieving a feat to get out an attempt by Marcus Edwards (45th + 2) who presented himself alone against him, after an amazing number. After capturing a new shot from Pote (66th), he made a superb flight in front of Pedro Porro (90th). The warm hand of the French captain was not enough to save his team, however.

Coming off the bench, Paulinho (90th), on a corner, and Arthur Gomes (90th + 3), after a festival, broke Tottenham in the last moments, to reward all the efforts of the Lions. Sporting has finished proving that it was equipped to get out of this group D and sent a clear message to OM, which will welcome the Portuguese to the Vélodrome on October 4.

Tottenham, so effective against OM, this time failed in this area. Lisbon goalkeeper Antonio Adan grabbed a header well from Richarlison (25th), before making two crucial saves in front of Emerson Royal (48th and 49th), then staying firm on a shot from Harry Kane (56th). Author of a double at the Vélodrome, Richarlison provoked a lot but without being rewarded. A goal was logically denied to him for offside (42nd), then he missed the target after a lot of work from Dejan Kulusevski (76th). He also missed Harry Kane a few centimeters to cut off a cross from Ivan Perisic (71st).
