The France team did not miss its debut in Euro 2022. Saturday in Skopje, North Macedonia, one of the three countries organizing the competition (with Slovenia and Montenegro), the Blue easily disposed of the local selection (24-14). The players trained by Olivier Krumbholz had, it is true, facing them a relatively modest opponent, who returned to the Euro after ten years of absence (and who has not played in the World Cup since 2007).
Darleux imperial in goal
In fact, there was no match. From the outset, the French were the masters of the game. The tricolor defense was solid, so much so that North Macedonia only scored its first goal after a quarter of an hour of play (5-1, 16th). Cléopâtre Darleux, one of the goalkeepers of the France team, played in the first period and managed a whopping nine saves on 14 opposing shots.
On the other hand, in attack, the Blues were messy, scoring little (four goals in the first ten minutes only). At the break, however, the gap was already substantial (12-5) and the Olympic champions were not more worried in the second half. Floriane André, the second French goalkeeper, split a few saves (3/7) and, in attack, Coralie Lassource was the most effective (five goals).
Hedwig hit in the face
The only downside in the tricolor victory: the injury of Béatrice Edwige. A few minutes from halftime, the French player was hit in the face by an opposing shot. She did not come back into play and was seen on the bench, with a bandage. During a time-out, however, she no longer wore it.
For this first match, Krumbholz had decided to preserve Orlane Kanor, who was returning from a shoulder injury. In this Euro, the France team will also have to do without Laura Glauser (back), Méline Nocandy (knee), Allison Pineau and Kalidiatou Niakaté (not retained). Next match of Les Bleues on Monday (8:30 p.m.) against Romania, still in Skopje.
