The Spanish brand GasGas, owned by KTM, will join MotoGP next season, alongside the French team Tech3, satellite of KTM. It will notably have Pol Espargaro as its driver, who has been racing for the Honda team since last season. The Spaniard had already evolved at KTM from 2017 to 2020.
GasGas is already involved in Moto2 and Moto3. On Friday, during a press conference on the sidelines of the Austrian Grand Prix, the brand presented the new red and white livery, which will replace the current orange on Tech3 motorcycles. The team will officially be called GasGas Factory Racing Team and is expected to appear as an official team, separate from the KTM factory team.
Oliveira as Pol Espargaro’s team-mate?
But the two teams will have “the same bike, the same specifications and will evolve in the same way”explained Hervé Poncharal, who heads Tech3.
For now, the identity of Pol Espargaro’s teammate is not yet known. KTM would like to keep the Portuguese Miguel Oliveira and switch him to Tech3. Currently a driver in the factory team, he will give way to Australian Jack Miller (who is racing with Ducati this season) next year. The latter will have as a teammate the South African Brad Binder, confirmed at KTM.
