Harry Maguire: €87m from Leicester to Manchester United

Courted by Manchester United for more than a year, Harry Maguire had been recruited by the Red Devils in the summer of 2019. Trained by Sheffield United but revealed at the highest level with Hull in 2016-2017, he was bought for € 13 million (+6 bonus) by Leicester, two years before his departure for MU. The Foxes had thus realized an extraordinary capital gain with this sale, which seems all the more timely since Maguire has never fully convinced at the Red Devils and is no longer even considered a full-fledged holder by Erik ten Hag .

Matthijs de Ligt: €85.5m from Ajax to Juventus

After an exceptional season with Ajax Amsterdam, where he amazed observers and supporters with his talent and maturity, the Dutch international, courted by all the major European clubs, chose to continue his career with Juventus Turin in the summer of 2019. The latter had paid 85.5 million euros (bonus included) to afford the services of the central defender. De Ligt left the Bianconeri during the offseason after three mixed years at the club and signed with Bayern Munich for 67 million euros (+10 million euros in bonus).

Van Dijk has since suffered a ruptured cruciate ligament and a return to competition which has re-strengthened Liverpool’s defence. And as if by magic, the Reds again reached the C1 final last season (lost 0-1 against Real Madrid).

Wesley Fofana: €81.5m from Leicester to Chelsea

He is the most expensive new French defender in history. Barely two years after his arrival in the Premier League from Saint-Etienne, Wesley Fofana took a new step by moving from Leicester to Chelsea. The French international Espoirs (21) nevertheless comes out of a season truncated by a fracture of the fibula suffered in August 2021. But the 52 appearances in the jersey of the Foxes convinced the Blues to take out the checkbook to strengthen a priority sector for them this summer.
