Transfers: Sael Kumbedi (Le Havre) expected at OL

This is a file that has been worked on for several weeks. European Champion with the France U17 team in the spring and double scorer in the final, Saël Kumbedi (17, under contract until 2023) had seen his rating explode on the market of young players with high potential. The player from Le Havre will eventually join Olympique Lyonnais, where he is preparing to sign a first three-year professional contract, with two additional seasons as an option. Lyon will pay around €1 million to hire his services.

To succeed in attracting such a coveted young talent – in particular very concretely by AC Milan and AS Monaco – the leaders of Lyon proposed a sports project which made the difference. Kumbedi will become the understudy of Malo Gusto (who will be attacked next summer) with a projection on the future to become the club’s starting right-back. Bruno Cheyrou, Vincent Ponsot and Jean-Michel Aulas presented a detailed development plan, with areas of progress and clear transition times.

Despite the financial agreement, his departure will remain a disappointment for La Havre, which will have seen Kumbedi evolve only six times with the first team (303 minutes and an assist). But Mathieu Bodmer, the club’s sporting director, was aware of the difficulty for the Norman club to have the native of Stains (Seine-Saint-Denis) sign his first professional contract.
