UEFA announce changes for Nations League, Euro and World Cup qualifiers

After a long process of consultation with its national associations, UEFA, through its executive committee, has approved new measures for certain competitions for men’s national teams.

Nations League

Regarding League A, the second groups will now be concerned. Between the end of the group stage in November and the final stage in June, one more round will be implemented in March. The League A group winners and runners-up will play home and away quarter-finals, the winners of which advance to the final four. For the other Leagues (B and C), promotion/relegation play-offs will be contested between the third group of League A and the second group of League B as well as between the third group of League B and the group runners-up in League C.

World Cup and Euro qualifying

There will be no more groups of six in World Cup and Euro qualifiers. The teams will be divided into twelve groups of four or five teams maximum. Teams drawn in groups of five will start qualifying matches in March, or in June if they play in the Nations League quarter-finals or promotion and relegation matches. Teams drawn in groups of four will begin their campaign in September.

Furthermore, UEFA has also made it known that the Euro will not increase to 32 teams in 2028as she had once imagined.
