Caroline Garcia touched the benefits of her superb success at the WTA 1000 in Cincinnati, where she dominated Petra Kvitova in the final (6-2, 6-4). The French jumped 18 places and became 17th player in the world. She thus obtained her best ranking since October 22, 2018 (she was then 18th). She therefore secures a seeded spot at the next US Open (August 29-September 11). And can dream higher, since it has only 130 points to defend by the end of the season.
79th last May (his worst result for eight years), Garcia has racked up 26 wins since June 7 (no player has done better). Bringing his total for 2022 to 33 wins. Only Iga Swiatek (50), Simona Halep (39) and Ons Jabeur (38) have won more than her this year. Corollary: she is now in 9th position in the Race and can legitimately aim for the Masters at the end of the year.
With the exception of Aryna Sabalenka (6th) and Simona Halep (7th), who swap places, no change to note in the top 10, still dominated by Iga Swiatek, who is 4025 points ahead of Anna Kontaveit. Further on, Kvitova gained seven places thanks to her final in Ohio and moved up to 21st.
Apart from Garcia, only three French women emerge in the top 100. Diane Parry (81st) loses three ranks. Alizé Cornet (37th) and Océane Dodin (99th) remain stable.
